What is Continuing Legal Education (CLE)?
CLE is a mandatory requirement for all Oklahoma Bar Association (OBA) members except senior and associate members. Oklahoma requires twelve (12) hours of mandatory CLE each year of which one hour must be in the area of professional responsibility, legal ethics or legal malpractice.

Can anyone attend a CLE program?
Yes, although the programs are designed for attorneys. These seminars are also excellent opportunities for paralegals, legal assistants, legal secretaries and other professionals.

How are CLE credit hours determined?
CLE credit is determined by the MCLE Commission and is calculated using the following formula: Each 50 minute segment of actual instructional time constitutes 1.0 CLE credit hour.

What if I attend only part of the program? How will this affect my CLE credit?
Participants are required to sign-in for both the morning and afternoon sessions on each day. If a participant misses any part of the program, it is his/her responsibility to inform the program coordinator and indicate the time away from the program on the appropriate sign-in sheet. That participant will receive CLE credit only for the time that he/she was in attendance.

Does the OBA have to sponsor a program for one to receive CLE credit?
No, The University of Oklahoma College of Law is an accredited or presumptively approved sponsor. This means that CLE programs sponsored by the University of Oklahoma College of Law have been accredited by and generally assured CLE credit from the MCLE Commission.

Can I receive CLE credit for other states besides Oklahoma?
Yes, if the program has been approved by another state's CLE accreditation organization. Please check the program's brochure or contact the CLE office for all CLE credit information.

What if my reported CLE credit does not reflect the amount I think it should?
If the discretion is with an OU sponsored seminar, please contact the OU CLE office by phone at 405-325-2891 or by e-mail at sdubbs@ou.edu. The CLE office will report any corrections needed to the OBA.
